Counseling for Real Life

Harbor provides individualized therapy for children, teens, adults, couples, and families throughout the Birmingham and Chelsea area.

Our clinicians bring different specialties, personalities, and areas of advanced training to the practice, allowing us to provide thoughtful care across many stages of life.

Areas of Care

Children & Adolescents

We work with children as young as three through the teenage years, supporting concerns related to trauma, anxiety, emotional and behavioral regulation, attachment, family changes, school concerns, self-harm, and difficult life experiences.

Several Harbor clinicians have advanced training in play therapy and trauma-focused treatment, allowing therapy to meet children developmentally rather than expecting them to communicate like adults.

Trauma & Recovery

Trauma treatment is a significant area of expertise across our practice.

Our clinicians work with experiences including childhood trauma, sexual abuse, domestic violence, PTSD, attachment disruption, grief, complex trauma, and cumulative occupational trauma.

We also have experience working with law enforcement, first responders, veterans, and others whose lives or careers may expose them to difficult experiences over time.

Adults & Life Transitions

Sometimes there is a clear reason to begin therapy. Sometimes life simply no longer feels the way you want it to.

We work with adults navigating anxiety, depression, burnout, relationships, grief, identity, sexual health, parenthood, career concerns, and major life transitions.

Specialized care is also available for perinatal mental health, including pregnancy and postpartum depression and anxiety.

Couples & Families

Relationships can become stuck in patterns that are difficult to change from inside them.

Harbor provides counseling for couples, parents, and families seeking greater connection, healthier communication, stronger relationships, and support through significant transitions.

A collaborative couples counseling model is also available with select Harbor clinicians.

How We Work

We believe good therapy is both clinically informed and deeply human.

Our clinicians use evidence-based and developmentally appropriate approaches while tailoring treatment to the person in front of them. We consider relationships, experiences, development, environment, behavior, and the nervous system, not simply a list of symptoms.

The goal is not to make you dependent on therapy.

It is to help you develop greater understanding, regulation, connection, and resilience so that what happens inside the therapy room becomes useful outside of it.
